Create Your Dream Bikini

Allison Kostusik: Bikinis are like outfits--you need more than just one, especially for vacations.  Make your swimsuit your own by mixing and matching different styles, prints, and patterns.

Mix and match your personal style with these style tips to create a custom swimsuit wardrobe just for you.

1. A foolproof staple is a classic black, white, or navy solid top paired with a colorful bold print or pattern.  Spice up a simple solid top by picking one with unique straps and swimsuit cuts.
2. Florals and stripes are so cute together.  Pull a color out of the top/bottom and use it in the coordinating piece for a more put together look.

3. Complementary florals look perfect if you pay attention to the color size of the patterns.  Choose one small and one large pattern to coordinate and not compete.

4. A solid crochet mixed with a geometric pattern looks so hippie chic.  Pair a high neck halter crochet top with high waisted shorts for an after the beach look.

5. Seersucker and a solid print would look perfectly preppy for a trip to the Hamptons.  Go for pastel colors, and add a big floppy hat to complete the look.

Now, once you have your different bikinis picked out, the only thing left is a coverup.  This is the icing on the cake.  I'm obsessed with coverup dresses that don't look like coverups at all.

Think long, flowing maxi dresses, which are great for the beach and dinner/shopping after.  It's an easy transition look that's dressy, yet put together.  So mix your matches and experiment with prints.  Don't forget the SPF, sandals, and sunglasses.
