How to "Get Over It"

We’ve all been there: everything is fine one minute and the next all hell is breaking loose. Sometimes it seems like nothing can make your situation better, but I’ve figured out that a few things in life can. Here’s my emergency de-stressing process:

Step One: Freak Out. This step is so essential to getting your shock, fear, anger, or whatever out of your system. Run around, scream, cry, drink a lot, sing to your favorite song, or hit a pillow… whatever it is that makes you feel better.

Step Two: Unwind. After your freak out sesh, it’s essential to unwind. A steamy shower with a relaxing lavender body wash should do the trick. My favorite is the raspberry sorbet from philosophy. Let's not forget that deep conditioning and painting my nails is like free therapy. I use the Drybar Mudslide Nourishing Mask.

Step Three: Wardrobe. Your outfit needs to match your soul. Naturally, all black is a must.

Step Four: Pamper. You need it. I don’t care if whatever happened was “so bad” or “all your fault” or you “cheated on your boyfriend with your girlfriend”. You need to take a moment to do something nice for yourself during your situation. Get a facial or a mani. Retail therapy is also a personal favorite. As they say, “buy a bag and get over it”.

Step Five: Gossip Girl. Watching GG never fails to make me feel better. It reminds me that no matter how terrible the situation, SVDW and Queen B are probably going through a lot worse… unless you’re also dealing with a royal divorce. Then you’re stuck with B. Plus, my obsession with Serena is unreal.

Step Six: Come to Terms. There’s probably not a whole lot you can do at the moment, otherwise you most likely would have already done it. Accept what happened and learn from it. Forgive yourself and others will follow. Remember that everything happens for a reason.

Step Seven. Drink.
