So, how about those Boyfriend jeans?

Now, I've given this a lot of thought, since these baggy, ripped jeans have been everywhere. EVERYWHERE I turn I see more cuffed jeans sagging on girls. I am typically the one to follow top trends, or at least give it a try, but I have come to the conclusion that I just can't with Boyfriend jeans. I am not condemning them, but it's just not me.

First of all, I've worked hard to get my legs and I just know that wearing these I'd be thinking "Do I look fat?" 24/7. Not to mention, that I would probably annoy all of my friends with this question (like I don't already). Second, it's a pain to find a pair that fits just right. I can't even. Gives me anxiety just thinking about. Third, I just personally don't really like the trend, much rather prefer the skinny leg or wide leg pant.

Although, who knows, right? My opinion changes on the daily since I'm always experimenting. But currently  this is on the PASS list. I don't worry about missing a trend, there's always a new one around the corner.

What do you think? Pass or grab?

SG X Nordstrom Rack

Last Friday, my boyfriend and I decided to celebrate the beginning of spring with a special date on the waterfront at Alki, but being the girl that I am I had my own version of celebrating Spring.. Shopping!

The day before, I had finally finished all my finals (phew) and went out on a scavenger hunt for the perfect pointy toe heels at Nordstrom Rack. I seriously cannot believe I found these Nine West nude, leather heels for $49! I am always an advocate for designer heels, but these souls literally feel like I’m wearing flats. So so incredibly comfortable!
On top of that, I scored a pair of jeans that fit like a glove. Being 5’11, I always have trouble finding jeans that are a perfect fit. Luckily, these Joe's jeans are on trend with the skinny ankle fit - for only like, $80?

I paired with a simple black Tahari top, also found at The Rack for a steal of $24, with my new plaid jacket and mini Prada.

This ensemble made a perfect casual date night outfit on the town, but I also can mix and match these shoes, jeans, and t-shirt with so many different outfits. I can already tell that I’ll be wearing these Nine West shoes to death this spring.

Post is courtesy of Nordstrom Rack, but opinions are all my own :)

I've been obsessing over pointy toe heels lately - here are my favorite nude heels for every budget :)

Skinny Saturday - Eat Dessert

If I could live off of one food, chocolate would be it. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner, dark or white chocolate, I could eat it all. No but really, dessert is my biggest weakness. I have a horrible sweet tooth that sometimes (almost always) kicks my butt.

Even though bikini season is around the corner and strict nutrition is heavy, I always let myself induge in some dessert every week. Like last night, my boyfriend took me out to dinner on the waterfront at Alki. After, we ventured into Capital Hill to try this new place - Dilettante Mocha Cafe. In order, here we have chocolate fondue (I died), chocolate and raspberry tiramisu cake, and brownies and ice cream. It was literally heaven. We grabbed waaay too much food, but thankful I was able to surprise my dad with some breakfast today :)

Indulging is not only delish but also necessary. I believe that in order to maintain some sanity with all those salads, it's easier sticking to a healthy "diet" if you have something to look forward to as a reward. I like to share my dessert with my boyfriend and it's actually become one of our date night bondings where we can both eat chocolate. It's the little things in life that count. I know from personal experience that you can become afraid of dessert. We only live once.. and I'm sure that in the future I'm going to regret not indulging more when I was younger.

3 Tips to Eating Dessert
1. Play this-or-that with your dinner and go a little light to save room for the yummy dessert!
2. Grab a friend or boyfriend to share a plate with you so you don't end up gulping down the entire plate of fondue by yourself (totally possible).
3. Try to plan a special evening that will feel more like a celebration rather than a "binge."

Today's Inspo

While doing my studying for major finals today, I prefer to listen to trance music, unlike my other hip hop selection, it makes me relax and focus. I stumbled upon an old song my best friend showed me like 10 years ago. Here are a few lyrics I thought are inspirational and personally very relevant. We really don't realize how fortunate we are & most of the time take it for granted.

Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; oh nevermind; you will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded.
But trust me, in 20 years you'll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can't grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked... You're not as fat as you Imagine.
Don't waste your time on jealousy; Sometimes you're ahead, Sometimes you're behind. The race is long, and in the end, it's only with yourself.

Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard; Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft.
Travel.

What Happened This Week?

Those who follow my Instagram also follow what happens to me on a daily basis. So if you haven't already, you can follow my Instagram (@societygrl) to see my life!

So, what happened this week? Besides tests, essays, and prepping for finals week.. not a whole lot. I've been slacking on the blog a bit, but can you blame me? I can't do full time school and still have enough creative juices to write blogposts and dress up! The only great thing about this week was the weather - it finally feels like spring and I can FINALLY wear my pastels that have been stored for more than half a year. Black is irreplaceable, but spring time just calls for lighter colors.

Above, I'm wearing Articles of Society jeans, H&M flats, Loft sweater, TROUVE leather jacket, and Louis Vuitton Neverful tote for - perf outfit for class.

& I started my Skinny Saturday blog posts that will be detailing my health secrets every Saturday :) I'm really excited about it! I know plenty of girls have asked about about my exercise and diet, so I'm happy I can finally share it with my followers! My body is all my hard work - I was not "skinny" growing up and the result is thanks to HOURS at the gym, motivation, and control. Remember, willpower is a muscle, and the more you train it the easier it gets.

I've also made another new addition with my Dear Blog venting pieces that I'll be throwing in when I'm too lazy to call my best friends lol! I'm making a few personal change to the blog, but I truly think they'll reflect me better. I'm not just a fashion blogger. I'm Julia, and I want to blog about the topics and things that interest me.

Skinny Saturday

It's finally here! I have decided to add a HEALTH section to my blog (which will be beautifully displayed in my new site coming soon) and along with it - Skinny Saturday- where every week I'll update all about my health and lifestyle secrets :) I know, just in time for your summer body makeover.

Now, to start off today.. my favorite breakfast/snack food on the go. Gluten free rice cakes. It's almost like eating a biscuit but not feeling guilty about it. Some of my favorite flavors range from caramel corn, chocolate crunch, lightly salted,  or just plain (if I want to put peanut butter on it) & they usually range somewhere from 50-70 calories, 5 grams of whole grain, and don't leave you feeling bloated. I usually grab the caramel corn flavor, like this one here, with my morning coffee when I'm running late.

The plain rice cakes aren't too bad either, if you think that your summer body is more important than your taste buds. I mean, you want to look chic in your ultra sexy maxi dress, correct?

& as I've mentioned plenty of times, I don't do cream/sugar in any of my drinks. Not coffee, not tea, and deff not juices. God forbid. I have been splurging on diet Coke the last few weeks, but I'm done. Drinking your calories is the worst, I'd rather save the calories for a cookie.

FYI. I'm in no way a nutritionist and all posts are my personal advice/experience with weight loss.

Dear Blog - 3/12

Sometimes shame and failure intimidate us and stop us from our greatest achievements. It's true. Sometimes risk of failure is worse than actually attempting something, and that's what I've felt recently. But who am I to explain these complicated life ponders? My mere 20 years are nothing short of sheltered and pampered. I guess it finally dawned on me that I am 20 years old, and for the past 20 years I have wanted to be this age. Well, now I am 20, and I have no idea why I wanted to be this age in the first place.

So, dear blog, I write to you because I initially started my anonymous twitter BECAUSE I wanted an outlet that I could release my energy on, and writing Dear Diary is so cliche.

Lately, with summer approaching I've been thinking about the correlation of my happiness with my thigh gap. If you've been a reader for more than a year, you would know what I'm referring to. If you have just joined my life documentation recently - I've struggled with an eating disorder for as long as I can remember. I don't want to go into specifics, but I finally overcame this last summer. Yet, ANYONE who deals with this issue knows that the disorder, or perhaps, "disease", can never be clearly wiped out.

Bikini season is about to roll around and the pressure to look perfect is pretty much at the ultimate. I always catch myself trying to cut this out, or try this, or do that, just to try to lose a couple pounds.. and I'm already underweight. Why is this not enough? Why must I always want more out of anything I do? Why does my thigh gap or chest bones have to define who I am? Why does my arm have to be skinny as a stick? I just don't understand why I must give up the delicious joy of eating food in order to be able to fit a stereotype in this industry. It's not even the industry, it's SOCIETY. I AM SOCIETYGRL, and I am a product of society. My name could not be any more accurate..

I have realized that beauty and "skinny" comes from within. It's ALL in my head. My critiques of myself are not always reality and I need to accept that. Sometimes logic isn't my friend, and  I'm still sometimes a slave to society.

I just want to love the only body I've been given. And eat chocolate (sometimes).

Library Chic

As requested by many on my Instagram (@societygrl), here are today's outfit details. I like to call this ensemble - Library Chic - as I was not going to dress up for the day at the library writing essays…

Leggings are pants today with Zella leggings, oversized REMAIN sweater I got last year, & Steve Madden loafers. Simple yet chic. If I could live with my hair up in a bun, I would every single day.

If I'm still sane by next week, I'll be lucky.

Details Matter

Last night's dinner outfit was so fab! I've been wanting to wear this dress for about a month now, but with my non-existing social life it's been hard to find an occasion! The detailing on the sleeves is phenomenal. This tfnc dress literally fits like a glove. LIKE A GLOVE!!

Now… to drown myself in coffee & books for the rest of the day…..

Happy March 8th!

Growing up in Ukraine, March 8th was a huge holiday for my family! Even now, I get flowers every morning from my dad along with some goodies :)

Women's day should not be limited to only one day - as we have much more to fight for in the battle of equality. Living in the United States we often become too comfortable in thinking about women's rights and freedoms, even when today a woman earns 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. We are in no way at our destination in our quest for equality here at home, and more so around the world. To me, it is our duty to women who are oppressed and are unable to work or go to school around the globe to voice our injustices & to fight for them.

"Love yourself first and everything else false into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world"

On a lighter note, since it is OUR day - why not treat ourselves? I went on a little splurge myself :) Here are a few on my favorite things for Spring!

Shoes In The City

Yes, it finally happened. The shoe obsessed, Carrie Bradshaw-Sarah Jessica Parker, who stole our hearts since 1998 has finally released her long anticipated shoe line! I'm not sure why it hadn't happened earlier, but Sarah Jessica Parker had made a guest appearance at our own Seattle downtown Nordstrom store to launch her new collection available exclusively at Nordstrom.

The Queen of street style is now obviously the Queen of shoes with her line strongly reflecting her own personal taste. What a perfect time for the pointy toe pump to come back in style? Perhaps it is after all the season of the pointy toe pump if SJP says so. With a mixture of fun, flirty, and stylish designs - the shoes can be worn day or night, work or play. I personally love that she also included flats and wedges with a bit of flair for those of us who don't always wear pointy toe pumps even while wearing pajamas and a fur coat.

Young or old, all of us want to channel some sort of the glamorous Sex And The City energy that we all drooled over while watching Carrie and her BFF'S take over NYC in fabulous designer clothing. Looks like we got our wish. :)
